Hopes For Peace Rekindled as Israel and PA Reps Agree To Meet In Jordan

Israel, PA Reps to meet again in Amman
01/09/2012 02:45
Palestinians have been downplaying significance of second round of direct talks since Jordanians renewed channel last week; officials in Ramallah say they don't expect current talks to achieve a breakthrough.
Israeli and Palestinian officials are scheduled to meet in Amman on Monday for the second time in a week, though Palestinian officials say the gap between the two sides on security and border issues remains as wide as ever.
Unlike the meeting last Tuesday, this time representatives of the Quartet – the US, EU, Russia and UN – will not be in attendance. Jordan will host the talks at the Foreign Ministry in Amman.

More Proof That There Was Never Any Jewish History in Ancient Palestine

The artifact, considered the first confirmation
 of certain ritual Temple practices.

Scholars offer new explanation for rare Temple artifact in Jerusalem ...

(Gee, I Wonder Why They Haven't Found Any Ancient Palestinian Artifacts ... hmmm?)

Object, at the northwestern corner of the Temple Mount, was initially thought to read 'Daka LeYa,' which means 'pure to God' in Aramaic.

A new interpretation is being put forward for the inscription on a tiny clay object, only a week after it was touted as the first archaeological find to confirm written testimony of ritual practices at Jerusalem's Temple.
The object, discovered in an archaeological survey at the northwestern corner of the Temple Mount, was initially thought to read "Daka LeYa," which means "pure to God" in Aramaic.
The artifact, considered the first confirmation of certain ritual Temple practices.

Excavators Prof. Ronny Reich of the University of Haifa and Dr. Eli Shukron of the Israel Antiquities Authority told a press conference last week that this was a seal used to mark objects used in the Temple as ritually pure, and that such a seal is mentioned in the Mishna.
But Prof. Shlomo Naeh of the Hebrew University's Talmud department believes the inscription could be read differently. "I was sitting with my son and looking at the photograph, and in a moment of intuition, I realized what it could be," he told Haaretz Tuesday.
Naeh also believes the object is related to Temple worship and purity, but reads the inscription differently, as "Dakar a Leyehoyariv." Dakar in Aramaic means ram and a stands for aleph, the first day of the week, when the priestly order of Yehoyariv was on duty in the Temple.
Thus, the object was used in Temple worship, but not how Reich and Shukron believe it was, says Naeh. To ensure the purity of animal sacrifices offered in the Temple - and to maintain an economic monoply, Naeh believes - pilgrims had to buy their offerings in the Temple courts. They gave money to a treasurer who would exchange it for a token inscribed with the type of sacrifice they had purchased and the date.
Like Reich and Shukron, Naeh supports his theory with a mishnaic verse citing the existence of such tokens. With regard to Reich and Shukron's interpretation, he said: "Purity was very fluid; the touch of an impure person was enough to make the object impure, so it is unlikely such a seal existed."
He also said the object could not be a seal because it lacked a hole for a thread or a handle to affix it to another object.
"People have been saying the ancient sages fantasized everything about the Temple. But ... they knew what they were talking about. For me, this is uplifting. The sages of the Mishna, my guys, win out," Naeh said.

Hamas to Zionist Entity: This Land Is My Land, This Land Is My Land , This Land Was Made For Me and Me!

Hamas Warns Israel of Al-Quds Judaization Attempts
Al-Manar
The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas warned the Zionist government of voting for the law that states Al-Quds the unified capital of the so-called “Jewish” state, and assured that the city is a red line.
In a statement it issued, Hamas said that the Zionist entity’s government holds the complete responsibility of the repercussions of such a step amid its continuous violations and crimes against the Palestinian land, people, and sanctities.
Hamas further emphasized that “the occupied Al-Quds will remain the title of the Palestinian cause, and our Palestinian people will stay in Al-Quds, holding on to their land and rights. The Zionist occupation’s decisions will not change the reality and history, and this is only a desperate attempt that will fail due to the Palestinian people’s firmness.”
“We, in Hamas, call the Palestinian people to defend Al-Quds city and our sanctities, and we also call the Arab League, the Islamic Cooperation Organization, and the United Nations to stand against the occupation’s policies and its Judaization measures,” it added.

Gov’t Wants Arabs to Pay for 1948 Pogroms against Jews
Israel is tackling the alleged “Arab refugees” issue by renewing efforts for compensation for Jewish victims of 1948 Arab pogroms.

The government has decided to tackle head-on the alleged “Arab refugees” issue by renewing efforts for compensation for Jewish victims of Arab pogroms .
Estimates of property losses range from $16 billion to $300 billion in Arab countries where Arab leaders seized their property or took it over after Jewswere expelled or forced to fleebecause of anti-Jewish violence and harassment.
Dr. Avi Bitzur, director-general of the Pensioners' Affairs Ministry, told Voice of Israel government radio it has created a new department to try to collect claims for more than 850,000 Jews from Iran and other Arab countries. Approximately 80 percent of them moved to Israel.
Most of the refugees fled or were expelled after the violent Arab reaction to the re-establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, six months after it was recognized by the United Nations under the Partition Plan that the Arab world rejected.
"Israel has talked about this on and off for 60 years. Now we're going to deal with it as we should have all along," said Bitzur.
He added that the Cabinet is scheduled to decide in the next two weeks to raise the issue of Jewish refugees whenever the Palestinian Authority brings up the “right of return,” referring to nearly five million Arabs living in Arab countries but for whom the United Nations considers Israel as their home. The designation is a result of a unique policy by UNRWA towards Arabs who fled Israel in 1948 at the behest of Arab countries, who promised them they would return quickly after their expected annihilation of the Jewish State.
The policy of the United Nations does not allow the status of “refugee” to be transferred from generation to generation, but it makes an exception for Arabs from Israel.
Bitzur added, “We should know the history of the pogrom in Baghdad in 1941, of the Libyan Jews who ended up in Bergen Belsen. It's time for people to know that there was this part of the Jewish people and its history was brought to an end."
"The UN has dealt at least 700 times with Arab refugees and their property, but not once with the issue of Jewish property.”

Dear Turkey: Genocide Is What Genocide Is

YouTube:

Uploaded by infolivetvenglish on Dec 26, 2011
The Foreign Ministry warned that Israel's possible recognition of the Armenian genocide, could lead to the serious deterioration of Israel's ties with Turkey.
A Knesset committee discussed the possibility of setting a memorial day for the Armenian genocide by the Turkish people nearly 100 years ago, marking a first in Israeli history. Several MKs expressed support for the move, saying that Israel, as a nation of the Jewish people who have experienced genocide, cannot ignore genocides in other countries. However, the recognition of the Armenian genocide has long been a sensitive diplomatic issue due to the implications it has on Israel's relationship with Turkey, which denies it.

I Must've Taken A Wrong Turn In Albequerque!

Maariv, using Palestinian Pal Press as their source, tells that Tahr Atwa, a senior Hamas functionary and a part-time commander in Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades left Gaza five days ago to cross to Egypt, using the underground tunnels system. Recently his family received an anonymous phone call from Israel. The caller who presented himself as an intelligence officer, told the family that Mr Atwa is in Israel and recommended that they get a lawyer.
It was nothing, of course, for our operative to get into the location where Mr Atwa is kept. During the whole interview Mr Atwa was seething with rage, mostly directed at Fathi Hammad, Interior Minister of Gaza (and a part-time commander in Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades)."Zionist lover, imperialist infidel lackey dog, the son of a thousand" were the mildest terms used by Mr Atwa to characterize Mr Hammad.
"I kept telling this ...[omitted] that the ...[omitted] tunnels have become a ...[omitted] maze and a man can easily get lost. We have to have a clear set of signposts put into the tunnels. The no good ...[omitted] has never moved his fat unwashed ...[omitted]. When I get, Allah willing, back to Gaza, my people will kill his ass, raze his house and ... [omitted] his wives and children..."
When our operative tried to placate Mr Atwa, telling him that he is, in all probability, not going home anytime soon and that Mr Hammad may expire meanwhile of a natural malady such as an acute lead poisoning, Mr Atwa's rage boiled over and his power of coherent speech was lost.
The Mr Atwa's jail officer, speaking on condition of anonymity (of course), told our operative that Mr Atwa keeps demanding to be provided with a bus ticket to Cairo and an exit visa immediately. "However, Mr Atwa doesn't have a passport for us to put an exit visa in and, besides, the only banknotes he offers in exchange for the bus ticket are Egyptian pounds. Counterfeited, too", the officer added.

Hamas Fund Raisers Busted!

Jerusalem men accused of raising millions for Hamas
Shin Bet, police arrest senior Hamas members on suspicion of raising funds abroad, working to strengthen terror group's presence in east Jerusalem
The Shin Bet and police arrested a number of senior Hamas members in recent months on suspicion of working to raise funds from foreign countries and boost the organization's presence in east Jerusalem.

The activists were charged at the Jerusalem District Court with money laundering, being active in a terror organization and using property for terrorist purposes.
The Shin Bet referred to the activists as a "small council" responsible for financing Hamas' activities in the city. The council had several committees in charge of implementing Hamas' social, religious and educational operations.

According to the Shin Bet, "The activities were aimed at creating solidarity with Hamas, thereby strengthening its presence and position among the east Jerusalem population."

The indicted activists include:

Fouad Hamadia, 42, of Wadi Joz, who was accused of serving as head of the religious committee in Jerusalem.

Ahmed Alian, 35, of Beit Safafa, who was accused of being in charge of Hamas' activity in the Jerusalem neighborhood.

Ashraf Ashur, 33, of Ras al-Amud, who was accused of helping bring in terror funds in order to finance Hamas' activity in Jerusalem.

  • Yakub Abu Atzav, 39, of the Old City of Jerusalem, who was accused of heading the "small council." Six years ago, he was convicted by the Judea Military Court for bringing terror funds from abroad which were used to finance Hamas' preparation for the West Bank elections.
  • Kafeh Sarhan, 41, of Silwan, who was accused of serving as the financial officer of the "small council".

The Hamas members were charged with raising funds abroad in order to promote and finance the organization's activity in Jerusalem.

According to the Shin Bet, the men transferred some NIS 2.5 million (about $660,000) to the organization while presenting fictitious contracts and committing economic offenses, including money laundering.

Arab Man Speak With Forked Tongue

PA Mourns Support for Jewish Israel as
the ‘Cursed Promise’

The PA continues to speak in two languages. Abbas officially says he recognizes Israel but officials mourn the Balfour Declaration.

The Palestinian Authority continues to speak in two languages. PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas official says he recognizes Israel but officials mourn the Balfour Declaration of November 2, 1917, in which Britain expressed Britain's support for "the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people."
In its annual condemnation of the Balfour statement, high school girls in Tulkarm located several miles east ofNetanya, wrote “letters of sorrow and pain” to Queen Elizabeth, Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) reported.
"The real reasons that caused Balfour to give his dark promise, first and foremost [the desire] to be rid of the Jews in Europe and to award them a prize for the genocidal weapons which they had invented, which helped Britain to annihilate more people," one girl wrote in a letter that appeared in PA media and was translated by PMW.
Another girl wrote to the Queen "that she and her contemporaries are still paying the price of the Balfour promise in blood and tears, because he [Balfour] 'decided to donate a country which was not his to a nation [the Jews] which was not entitled to it, with no justification, since the Palestinian people had not attacked Britain or dreamed of invading London.'"
Fatah member Faiz Abu Aitah told the official Palestinian Authority's daily newspaperthat the Balfour Declaration was "the greatest crime that the international community is responsible for."
In its continuing attempt to rewrite history, PA television reported, "Today is the 94th anniversary of the cursed Balfour promise, in which those who had no ownership (Britain) permitted those who had no right (the Jews) to establish a national homeland for the Jews in Palestine."
A PA reported chimed in on cue, “They [the Jews] took the place of the original inhabitants, conquered their land, and turned them into refugees throughout the world. A promise that brings a mark of shame upon humanity because it [humanity] ignored the colonialist frenzy - not only in Palestine but in the Arab homeland, from east to west...
"The promise is not necessarily the right of humans, in contrast to Allah [who has the right] to promise this land, which did and still does belong in its entirety to its Palestinian owners. Balfour will continue to turn in his grave because of the historical injustice which Britain committed against the Palestinian people."
Al-Hayat Al-Jadida reported, "The promise declared by British Foreign Minister Arthur Balfour, on Nov. 2, 1917, constitutes a great political crime and sin, leading to the uprooting of the Palestinian people and the theft of its land, and causing wars and great conflicts which still continue in the region.'"
Despite the incitement of hatred for the establishmentof Israel, the United States this week continues to to convince Israel to make concessions to bring Abbas back to direct talks for the creation of the PA as a country, on land that includes areas that were part of the 1947 Partiton plan drawn by the United Nations.

Israel threatens to cut off power, water to Gaza

JERUSALEM (Google News) — Israel warned on Saturday that it would cut the supply of water and electricity to the Gaza Strip if rival Palestinian movements Fatah and Hamas form a unity government.
"The foreign ministry is examining the possibility of Israel pulling out of the Gaza Strip in terms of infrastructure," Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon told the daily Yediot Aharonot website.
A unity government deal "would transform the Palestinian Authority into a terrorist authority and would put an end to any hope for a peace agreement" with Israel, said Ayalon, who is also a Knesset deputy from the nationalist Yisrael Beitenu party.
On Friday, Israeli ministers decided to maintain a freeze on the transfer of tens of millions of dollars in tax monies to the Palestinian Authority hours after Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas held top-level talks with Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal at which they announced a new era of "partnership."
The transfer of funds, which make up a large percentage of the authority's monthly budget, was frozen on November 1 as a punitive measure after the Palestinians won full membership of the UN cultural organisation.
"If the Palestinians have signed an agreement over a unity government, it would make a transfer of funds impossible," a senior government official told AFP.
In January, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had already threatened to cut off water and power to Gaza, which has been controlled by Hamas since the Islamist group chased Fatah from the territory in 2008.
Israel, which unilaterally withdrew from Gaza and dismantled Jewish settlements in 2008, continues to supply the territory with water and 70 percent of its electrical power, the rest being supplied by neighbouring Egypt or local power plant

Shift in tone at White House over Egypt

Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys in Egypt?  Until recently, the Obama administration has gone out of its way to praise the Egyptian military for its stabilizing influence and its apparent progress in moving toward a national election.  CNN reports that the White House has had a “major shift” in tone regarding the generals:
Gee, who was it that said that quick elections in Egypt would be a disaster? Unfortunately, by pushing to have Hosni Mubarak resign just eight days into the Tahrir Square protests, Barack Obama boxed Egypt into a corner. Either hold quick elections that only the Muslim Brotherhood would be organized enough to exploit, or have the military keep power for an extended period of time and continue to stir up unrest in Egypt. The notion that “the street” should determine Egypt’s course is even more fraught with peril, as Ynet News reported today (via JWF):
A Muslim Brotherhood rally in Cairo’s most prominent mosque Friday turned into a venomous anti-Israel protest, with attendants vowing to “one day kill all Jews.”
Some 5,000 people joined the rally, called to promote the “battle against Jerusalem’s Judaization.” The event coincided with the anniversary of the United Nations’ partition plan in 1947, which called for the establishment of a Jewish state.
However, most worshippers who prayed at the mosque Friday quickly left it before the Muslim Brotherhood’s rally got underway. A group spokesman urged attendants to remain for the protest, asking them not to create a bad impression for the media by leaving.
Speakers at the event delivered impassioned, hateful speeches against Israel, slamming the “Zionist occupiers” and the “treacherous Jews.” Upon leaving the rally, worshippers were given small flags, with Egypt’s flag on one side and the Palestinian flag on the other, as well as maps of Jerusalem’s Old City detailing where “Zionists are aiming to change Jerusalem’s Muslim character.”
Muslim Brotherhood spokesmen, as well as Palestinian guest speakers, made explicit calls for Jihad and for liberating the whole of Palestine. Time and again, a Koran quote vowing that “one day we shall kill all the Jews” was uttered at the site. Meanwhile, businessmen in the crowd were urged to invest funds in Jerusalem in order to prevent the acquisition of land and homes by Jews.
Yeah, that’s a great outcome for the US — trading Mubarak for a short-lived democracy that will catapult the Muslim Brotherhood into power and touch off a new war with Israel.  Good luck moving through the Suez Canal next year!
The generals in Egypt have decided to keep power for a little while longer with former Mubarak figures, but not because they didn’t try to get some reformers to work with them:
Egypt’s embattled military rulers appointed a new prime minister Friday as fiery crowds of supporters and opponents took to the streets, exposing the severity of a split over the leading role of the nation’s long-revered armed forces on the eve of parliamentary elections.
As the largest crowd of the week-long protests gathered in central Cairo’s Tahrir Square to demand that Egypt’s military chiefs step aside, thousands of angry Egyptians demonstrated near downtown in support of the generals and “stability.” A small pro-military group also turned out in the port city of Alexandria, where pitched clashes between anti-military council protesters and security forces continued. …
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of protesters poured into Tahrir Square, the birthplace of what most are calling Egypt’s unfinished revolution. They rejected the appointment of Kamal el-Ganzouri, 78, who had served as prime minister during Hosni Mubarak’s presidency. He was asked to form a new cabinet to replace the caretaker government that resigned this week amid deadly clashes between security forces and rock-throwing demonstrators.
The military chiefs chose Ganzouri after holding intensive discussions with more prominent figures such as Amr Moussa, the former Arab League chief, and Mohamed ElBaradei, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate who formerly headed the International Atomic Energy Agency. Both turned down the job after demanding broad powers, according to political figures briefed on the meetings.
In Washington, the White House called Friday for the new government to be “empowered with real authority immediately” and for elections to go ahead “expeditiously,” leading to a full transfer of power to a civilian government. The U.S. administration has been hesitant to fully support protesters against the Egyptian military, an institution that receives billions of dollars in U.S. aid.
Is military rule a preferable outcome?  Not at all.  However, we should have tried to work through Mubarak first rather than rush to throw him aside.  Meanwhile, the State Department insisted for months of brutal repression in Syria that Bashar Assad was a “reformer” with whom we could work despite his alliance with Iran, while we castigated and abandoned one of the rare Arab leaders willing to keep peace with Israel.  Whatever that was, it certainly wasn’t “smart power,” and this outcome was predictable.

It's Those Damn Jooz! ...(Again)

'Zionists behind anti-Iran moves by US'

Ali Saeedi Shahroudi, the representative of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei at the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps
PressTV  A senior Iranian cleric says the US administration drafted the recent International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) resolution against Iran to gain the support of the Zionist lobby ahead of the 2012 US presidential election.

The United States Washington is threatening Iran and taking measures against the Islamic Republic because the US is under domestic and foreign pressure, especially from Saudi Arabia and the Zionist lobby, Ali Saeedi Shahroudi, the representative of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei at the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, was quoted by IRNA as saying on Friday.

In its November 18 resolution against the Islamic Republic, the IAEA Board of Governors voiced “deep and increasing concern” about Tehran's nuclear program and said Iran and the IAEA should enhance dialogue in order to resolve the dispute over the Iranian nuclear energy program.

The United States, Israel, and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program.

Yet, as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, Iran maintains that it has every right to develop and acquire nuclear technology meant for peaceful purposes.

Saeedi that Israel and Saudi Arabia are very displeased about the fact that Iran has become a major player in the region in recent years.

He went on to say that the US allegation that Iran was involved in a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington is another example of the United States bowing to foreign pressure.

On October 11, the US Justice Department accused Iran of plotting to assassinate Saudi Arabian Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir, with help from a man suspected of being a member of a Mexican drug cartel.

However, Tehran says the media hype created by Washington is an attempt to deflect attention from the anti-corruption and anti-corporatism protests currently rocking the country.
