The Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Jewish human rights NGO (non-governmental organization), recently released their 2011 Top 10 Anti-Semitic slurs. They include statements from politicians, organizations and major people in the arts and film world. Many of the quotes are classic Jewish conspiracy theories as well as anti-Israel statements updated to reflect current anxieties.

"These 10 examples constitute a fraud alert from people who should know better who have crossed the line," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder and dean of the Wiesenthal Center.

It should be noted that the list does not include statements by terrorist organizations, the lunatic fringe or the government of Iran. The center wants to dispel the notion that such rants are the exclusive domain of Neo-Nazis and crackpots. However, in some cases the influence of alcohol may have had a contributing role.

The list includes:

1. "I come before you today from the Holy Land, the land of Palestine, the land of divine messages, ascension of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him and the birthplace of Jesus Christ peace be upon him, to speak on behalf of the Palestinian people..."--Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at his UN General Assembly address, September 23, 2011. Speaking to the world, Abbas omitted any reference to the Jewish people's connection to the Holy Land. No reference to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, nor King David, King Solomon, or Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel.
2. "I would like to see accurate statistics of how many Israelis have been killed by the bombs thrown by Palestinians or with the rockets that were launched by them?.... we know that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were killed... neither Turkey nor the Muslims in the region have exerted such cruelty on Israel... Israel is inexplicably cruel, against innocent Palestinians, hiding behind the Nazi Holocaust and seeking victimhood....Everybody knows what Israel is about"--Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan during CNN interview with Fareed Zakaria, September 25, 2011.
3. "Everything that happens today in the world has to do with the Zionists...American Jews are behind the world economic crisis that has hit Greece also."--"Zorba The Greek" composer, Mikis Theodorakis, winner of the International Music Council-UNESCO International Music Prize, also told Greek TV that he was "anti-Israel and anti-Semitic," February 15, 2011.
4. "I love Hitler...People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f****** gassed."--The renowned Christian Dior fashion designer John Galliano was fired and later convicted in a French court for his anti-Semitic rants screamed at Jews in a Paris bar. Galliano later apologized.
5. "I understand Hitler... He's not what you would call a good guy, but yeah, I understand much about him and I sympathize with him a little bit. But come on, I'm not for the Second World War, and I'm not against Jews... I am of course, very much for Jews. No, not too much, because Israel is a pain in the ass... I'm very much for Speer. Albert Speer [Hitler's Architect]... He was also maybe one of God's bestchildren... Okay, I'm a Nazi."--Director Lars Von Trier was thrown out of the Cannes Film Festival after this rant, May 18, 2011. He later apologized.
   
6. "[Jews] want that sucker of Syrian blood to remain and continue to prey and suck blood. They not only want their security, but also to enjoy the sight of Syrian blood being spilled.... Dierkes posted a flyer on the website with a swatiska morphing into a Star of David and called for a boycott of Israeli products, labelling Israel a "rogue state" and a "warmonger." "Arbeit macht Frei!" is inscribed on the gates of Nazi concentration camps including Auschwitz and Dachau.
10. "The state of Israel is an illegal, genocidal place... to equate Judaism with the state of Israel is to equate Christianity with [rapper] Flavor Flav."--Rev. Jeremiah Wright in a speech to thousands of people, June 14, 2011, Baltimore, Maryland.

This year, the Wiesenthal Center is asking that members of the public forward on to them the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic slurs that they might hear so that such incidents be exposed and the perpetrators be held accountable. Forward them here.

UNESCO Pulls Financing To (Hate Mongering) Palestinian Magazine

A day after a protest from the Simon Wiesenthal Center to UNESCO's Director-General over a Palestinian youth magazine which published materials exalting Hitler, UNESCO has agreed that it "will not provide any further support to the publication in question." Zayzafouna, a magazine which supposedly promotes democracy and tolerance, published an article by a ten-year-old Palestinian girl who said that in her dreams, Hitler told her, “Yes. I killed them [the Jews] so you would all know that they are a nation who spreads destruction all over the world.” The article was brought to the public's attention by Palestinian Media Watch.

A letter from the office of UNESCO's Director-General read:
"UNESCO’s attention has been drawn to the February 2011 issue of the Palestinian children’s magazine Zayzafouna. This magazine is published by an NGO of the same name under the patronage of the Palestinian National Commission for UNESCO, which is the national body set up by the Palestinian Authority to facilitate its work with the Organization. The February issue features a story written by a 10-year-old girl in which Hitler is quoted by her as stating that he “killed [the Jews] so you would all know that they are a nation who wreak havoc on Earth”. While UNESCO upholds freedom of expression as an integral part of its mandate, the inclusion in this publication of a statement that may be interpreted as an apology of the holocaust is contrary to UNESCO’s constitutional mandate and values. It is totally unacceptable.

UNESCO supported the publication of three issues of the Zayzafouna Magazine six months after the February 2011 issue. The support was provided for these issues following agreement with the editorial board that they would focus on building greater appreciation amongst Palestinians for their heritage and culture. They were to open the way for positive dialogue aimed at overcoming the consequences of the Middle East conflict, and to fight against stereotypes that may be conducive to violence. It was UNESCO’s intention to foster a positive view ofPalestinian heritage based on the values of tolerance and UNESCO’s mandate of building peace in the minds of men and women. This vision guides all of UNESCO’s activities, and we urge all partners to work in this direction.

UNESCO is shocked and dismayed by the content of the February issue, and has requested more detailed information and clarification from the editors of the magazine and to Palestinian Authority.
UNESCO strongly deplores and condemns the reproduction of such inflammatory statements in a magazine associated with UNESCO’s name and mission and will not provide any further support to the publication in question.
The Organization, which is deeply committed to the development and promotion of education about the Holocaust, disassociates itself from any statement that is counter to its founding principles and goals of building tolerance in the full respect for human rights and human dignity."

A controversial billboard has been taken down after a discount vodka company was accused of using anti-Semitic language in the advertisement. Situated near the West Side Highway in Manhattan, theadvertisement for Wodka vodka read, "Christmas quality, Hanukkah pricing," according to WABC.

After receiving numerous complaints about the billboard, the Anti Defamation League (ADL) issued a press release saying that the vodka ad promoted anti-Semitic stereotypes and should be taken down.

"In a crude and offensive way of trying to make a point that their vodka is high quality and inexpensive, the billboards evoke a Jewish holiday to imply something that is cheap and of lesser value when compared to the higher value of a Christian holiday," Ron Meier, ADL New York regional director said in the release. "Particularly with the long history of anti-Semitic stereotypes about Jews and money, with the age-old notion that Jews are cheap, to use the Jewish holiday in dealing with issues of money is clearly insensitive and inappropriate."

Speaking with New York's CBS 2, Wodka CEO James Dale said he had received death threats and been compared to Hitler since the outrage over the billboard began.

The family of a 14-year-old girl has sued school officials in Green, alleging they failed to stop physical and emotional bullying aimed at their daughter in part because she is Jewish.

The parents sued in U.S. District Court after withdrawing their daughter from Green High School last month because, according to the lawsuit, officials did nothing to stop the taunting, violence and threats of violence. The name of the family is being withheld to protect the identity of the girl.

The lawsuit claims the bullying by classmates went on for years. Students told her she would “rot in hell” because she didn’t believe in Jesus Christ and they called her a “dirty Jew.”

“She was tripped, shoved, hit, kicked and had her books knocked out of her hands on a regular basis,” the lawsuit maintains.

Under Ohio law, all school districts must have bullying policies. The lawsuit contends that adults working for the Green district, including a bus driver, a guidance counselor, two principals and two superintendents, did nothing to stop the bullying when it was happening or to punish the aggressors afterward.

“She’s been victimized for a number of years because there’s very few Jewish people in that district and there’s a lot of people apparently who have a problem with Jews,” said the family’s Cleveland attorney, Kenneth Myers.

Superintendent Michael Nutter said the case has been turned over to the district’s insurance company.

“Our lawyers at the insurance company are reviewing it and we’ve been advised from them at this point not to comment on it until they’ve reviewed all of it,” he said. “We have our [bullying] policies, they’re all online, but that’s all I can say right now about it.”

Although most of the bullying was verbal, there were incidents of physical abuse, according to the lawsuit. In September 2007, when the girl was in fifth grade, she was stabbed in the leg with a pencil during class and required medical attention.

Her parents allege that during the fall of 2008, she was verbally harassed daily on a school bus by several boys, who called her a “[f-ing] Jew.”

But the bus driver neither disciplined the boys nor filed a report with the district. Two boys also spat on her when she was on the bus one day that fall, the lawsuit claims.

In November 2009, a boy assaulted her in the choir room at school and she had to use crutches for several weeks.

Most of the abuse, however, was verbal and much of it focused on her religion, Myers said.

The lawsuit names more recent incidents as well, including a Facebook page in 2010 devoted to disparaging the girl and including comments posted by the mother of one of the girls who created the page.

The lawsuit alleges that school officials knew about the harassment because the girl’s mother made several complaints, both in person and in writing.

One defendant named in the lawsuit, Green Intermediate School Principal Mark Booth, is accused of telling the girl to fight one of the boys who was bullying her and of remarking to the mother that her daughter “enjoyed the attention.”

The lawsuit also names the school board, Nutter, former Superintendent Wade Lucas, Green High School Principal Cindy Brown, and Jeff Miller and Jeff Wells, Green Middle School principal and assistant principal, respectively.

Lucas left the district in 2009 to become superintendent of the Olentangy district in Delaware County near Columbus. He could not be reached for comment late Friday.

The girl missed about three weeks of classes, but now attends classes in another public school district.

“She was able to enroll in a different school, which is nice that Green was able to arrange that, but it doesn’t wipe out the years of abuse that she suffered,” Myers said. “So far, she’s been at the other school I think two weeks now and things are going very well for her because they don’t have that sort of culture where that’s tolerated.”

The lawsuit asks for a declaration that Green school officials violated the girl’s constitutional rights and seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, as well as attorney fees.

Myers is involved in several bullying cases around the state, including two involving students at Mentor High School who committed suicide: Sladjana Vidovic and Eric Mohat.

The case involving Mohat, who shot himself in 2007, was dismissed this year.

“In the Mohat case, the parents had not communicated with the school district because the son, he thought he had it handled,” Myers said. “The standard that you have to prove is what’s called deliberate indifference on the part of the school district.”

He said Green officials were well aware of what was happening.

“I didn’t have enough evidence to show that in Mohat, but I think I have it here,” Myers said.

Brooklyn, NY -- Bigots fueled by hatred and beer terrorized a heavily-Jewish Brooklyn neighborhood Friday, torching three cars, vandalizing a van and defacing other property with anti-Semitic messages.

Stunned residents on the targeted Midwood block awakened to thick black smoke pouring from the cars — and other hateful reminders of Nazi viciousness on Ocean Parkway.

"It was horrible," said 18-year-old Arlette Tebele, whose mother's charcoal-colored BMW X5 SUV was reduced to charcoal in places by the flames.

"They were trying to send a message," she said. "They're anti-Jew, anti—Semites."

Her brother, Bobby, was equally angry.

"It's not so much that the cars got blown up," he said. "It's the hatred behind it that's chilling. Of course, this would happen the one time I don't park in the driveway."

Eight nearby benches were spray-painted with Nazi swastikas and "SS" — the initials of Hitler's brutal Gestapo — and "f--k the Jews" was scrawled on a sidewalk.

Sandra Simone, a speech therapist at a nearby school, said it was no coincidence the hate attack came a day after the anniversary of Kristallnacht, when the Nazis in 1938 raided, ransacked and burned Jewish homes, businesses and synagogues across Germany.

Simone also tied the attack to the ongoing Occupy Wall Street protests, where signs blaming Jews for the economic meltdown have been spotted from time to time.

"There are crazy people in this world, who just have nothing to do but hate," she said. "This is a sign of the times — that somebody would be emboldened enough to do this."

Police recovered at least four gas containers — and a dozen beer bottles — from the block of Ocean Parkway, between Avenues I and J.

"There were Coronas everywhere," said one detective. "Looks like they had a party."

"We're canvassing gas stations and hardware stores a mile around," another detective added, describing the police search for the haters.

City Councilman David Greenfield's office offered a $1,000 reward for information about the culprits, and the Anti-Defamation League kicked in an additional $4,000.

A recent ADL survey counted 133 anti—Semitic incidents in the city in 2010 — 53 of them in Brooklyn.

"New York City is home to more than 8 million of the most open and tolerant people in the world," Mayor Bloomberg said.

"But even here, there are occasional incidents involving actions that are hateful or vicious or both."

Tebele said she was in an upstairs bedroom in her home that overlooks the street when she heard "laughing and screaming," about 5:30 a.m.

"It was a group of kids," she said. "There was a series of explosions. The three cars were all on fire. It spread from the first car, to the second car, to the third."

In addition to the BMW, the vandals incinerated a rented Jaguar and an Audi and spray-painted KKK, for Ku Klux Klan, on a red Ford van.

Officers from the local 66th Precinct and the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force are investigating the hate fest.
